Since the *PRC market reforms, Chinese society has undergone a transformation. More and more people are moving to the cities, giving up their traditional lifestyles. Shopping malls, cell phones and computers have soared in recent years.

China’s growth – with its increasing energy demands – has had a dramatic impact on the environment. Emissions from China’s industry pushed the country into the leading position of CO² emission due to energy consumption.

Water concerns are also growing. Rivers in the north are drying up, in part due to the overuse of river water. Urbanization , on the other hand, has exacerbated floating in certain areas by reducing drainage.

Can anything be done about that?

There is the country’s aim to reduce energy intensity, increase renewable energy sources and re-forest the countryside.

Populations

China’s overall population exceeds 1.3 billion, making it the world’s most populous nation.

The modernization of China also highlights a country of contrasts, Twenty millions left on the margins of the prosperity.
